Adjoining towns are North East to the north, the Town of Dover to the south and the Towns of Stanford and Washington to the west.

Amenia NY Real Estate

Before colonization by the Europeans, the hillsides around today’s Amenia and Wassaic were almost treeless. The native Americans had burned the forests so that they could hunt the deer. During the 1700s many settlers came to these valleys and started farming.

After the Harlem Valley Railroad was opened in 1850, dairy farming grew rapidly. Wassaic had not only an active iron furnace, but also a condensed milk factory.

Today with the recent extension of the Harlem Valley line of the railroad, commuters are coming into the area in large numbers. Amenia New York real estate continues to be a destination for second homes for residents of the New York Metropolitan area.
