Ghent NY real estate land is in the center of Columbia County and houses the Columbia County Airport and Hawthorne Valley School. The hamlet of Ghent connects with Chatham Village. The older hamlets are Arnolds Mill, Buckleyville, Omi, West Ghent and Pulvers. Is bordered to the west by the Town of Stockport, the Towns of Chatham and Kinderhook to the north, the Town of Austerlitz to the east and the Town of Claverack to the south. The population was 5,402 at the 2010 census. The median income for a household in the town was $43,529, and the median income for a family was $52,096. The median house value is $114,000. Males had a median income of $32,191 versus $23,958 for females.

Around 1735, early settlers, exploiting areas cleared by the natives, moved into the area. Ghent occupies a central position among the towns of the county. It was erected from Kinderhook, Chatham, and Claverack, April 3, 1818, and received its name from Ghent, in Holland. Before this division, the territory comprised within its bounds was locally know as Squampamock* and Kline Kill.  The town has an irregular shape, and was reduced to its present area–27,649 acres–in 1833, when a part of Stockport was taken from its western border.

The name has its origin in the Flemish city Ghent, in Flanders. Located at Ghent is the historic Van Valkenburgh-Isbister Farm, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Today its residents work locally as well as in Hudson and Albany. Ghent is a popular second home destination.
