Sleepy Hollow Lake has one of the best large mouth bass fishing habitats
in New York State and the community hosts an annual “Bass Tournament” for property owners and children. Sleepy Hollow Lake is the source of the current New York State Record White Crappie.
Management of Sleepy Hollow Lake is overseen by the Association Manager and the Lake Committee. These serve to monitor the health of the lake and fish habitat, as well as, helping to enforce boating, waterskiing and swimming rules and safety. The Lake Management department is currently working with professional water and conservation consultants to draft and implement a long-term lake management plan.

The Town of Athens was established on February 25th 1815.
Its use as a ferry terminus was diminished after the Rip Van Winkle bridge was built in 1935; the ferry was closed in 1947. Athens’ layout and architecture have remained essentially the same since its heyday in the late 19th century. It has more than 300 buildings on national and state historic registers and has the feel of a living museum of American architecture, with examples of many of the predominant styles of the 18th and 19th centuries, including Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Stick, Second Empire, Folk Victorian and Queen Anne.
The downtown village area is a developing river front town with new restaurants and rehabilitation of historic buildings. According to the U. S. Census for 2000, the encompassing town has a total area of 28.8square miles and a population of 3,991, 97% white. The median income for a household in the town was $39,719.
