Copake Lake NY Real Estate

Copake Lake is a community bound together by a passion for its pristine glacial lake. The full and part time residents agree Copake Lake is a special place where a lifetime of happy memories are born. You can feel the soul of Copake Lake in the quiet mornings when the lake is occupied by a handful of kayakers and fishermen, on a busy weekend afternoon among joyful laughter of parents and kids water skiing, and on quiet evenings when sound travels from a dozen lakeside porches at once as old stories are unwound for the next generation. If there is a short list of places that are heaven on earth, Copake Lake is on it.

Copake Lake NY Real Estate

includes Copake Falls, Taconic State Park, Copake Lake and Taconic Shores. The distinction between Hillsdale and Copake is often hard to define. It shares the Hillsdale Library which is at the border off Route 22. It is a great vacation area and farm community. Copake New York Real Estate is known for farms and lakes.
The Town of Copake is north of the Town of Ancram, south of the Town of Hillsdale, West of Massachusetts and East of the Town of Taghkanic. The Copake community has a deep history, grounded in agriculture. Today, as in the past, this community is warm and welcoming. Made up of many residents whose families go back generations, the Town of Copake is also enriched by newer residents, as well as many seasonal and weekend residents—many of whom have called Copake their second home for decades.
Copake was part of the 1686 Taconic Grant to Robert Livingston for about 400 acres (1.6 km2) of good land and 2,200 acres (8.9 km2) of woodland. After it was purchased from the Indians it turned out to be 160,000 acres (650 km2), and he established the English-style Livingston Manor. The manor extended well into what is now Massachusetts.

The Town of Copake was established in 1824

and derives its name from the Indian name for the prominent lake in the Town. The Copake Iron Works, also known as Copake Station, was the site of iron mining throughout the latter part of the 19th century. The New York and Harlem Railroad came through in 1852.
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 3,278 people residing in the town, 96% were white. The median income for a household in the town was $42,261, and per capita $23,088.
The Taconic Hills School District serves Copake Lake and is only a few minutes drive. It includes a modern campus housing elementary, middle school and high school. Click here for more information about the school district.
