Washington NY History
The town is named after George Washington, who passed through the town during the Revolution. U.S. Route 44 passes across the town. Washington was part of the Great Nine Partners Patent of 1697 and was formed in 1788 as one of the original towns of the re-organized county. The town lost territory in 1793 to form the new Town of Stanford.
The Village of Millbrook, a 19th century village that dates from the arrival of the railroad in 1869, is at the heart of the Town of Washington.
